The True Seeker

Only when the lamp of search, of earnest striving, of longing desire, of passionate devotion, of fervid love, of rapture, and ecstasy, is kindled within the seeker’s heart, and the breeze of His loving-kindness is wafted upon his soul, will the darkness of error be dispelled, the mists of doubts and misgivings be dissipated, and the lights of knowledge and certitude envelop his being. At that hour will the Mystic Herald, bearing the joyful tidings of the Spirit, shine forth from the City of God resplendent as the morn, and, through the trumpet-blast of knowledge, will awaken the heart, the soul, and the spirit from the slumber of heedlessness. Then will the manifold favors and outpouring grace of the holy and everlasting Spirit confer such new life upon the seeker that he will find himself endowed with a new eye, a new ear, a new heart, and a new mind. He will contemplate the manifest signs of the universe, and will penetrate the hidden mysteries of the soul. Gazing with the eye of God, he will perceive within every atom a door that leadeth him to the stations of absolute certitude.

A Package Has Arrived

Picture this. A group of people waiting at a designated grassy field and looking up towards the sky, expectantly. They start to get excited when a jumbo jet flies overhead slightly in the distance. A package drops from the aircraft, and a second later the parachute opens and the big package comes lazily floating down.

The people eagerly rush toward the spot where the package has landed in the grass. As they get closer, their hopes are confirmed as they see the stenciled letters on the outside of the wooden crate: "The Kingdom of God on Earth."

Someone pries open the boards and the people strip away the packaging with hearts filled with joy. Then everyone steps back to see what they have just unravelled.

The sight before their gaze causes the people to look around at one another with a new understanding in their eyes. Because the contents of the package were not what they'd all expected.

As it turns out, the package was actually a do-it-yourself kit. Some assembly required.

It can be hard to explain to people that the Promise is fulfilled when they don't see the immediate result of it, but there's some major construction work going on, and we'll have to march onward despite any obstacles, because we need all the hands we can get.
